Rubber Compounds

Single and Dual-Compound: In mountain bike tires without the 3C marking, Dual Compound rubber is used, while road tires use Single Compound. Both Single and Dual-Compound tires are durable and reliable for general use. They are also slightly more affordable, and their slightly firmer rubber compound easily withstands winter′s freezing temperatures.

3CS, or MAXXSPEED: A rubber compound primarily used in fast XC racing tires, designed to roll as smoothly as possible.

3CT, or MAXXTERRA: Thanks to its harder central knobs, 3CT tires can remain well-rolling and relatively durable. As a result, they are excellent for versatile trail riding in both dry and wet conditions.

3CG, or MAXXGRIP: The softest and stickiest of Maxxis′ triple compounds. Compared to other 3C tires, the outer layer of soft, sticky rubber on the knobs is significantly thicker. Designed for race use in wet and slippery conditions. When nothing else sticks, MaxxGrip sticks.

Protection Level

Silkworm: A puncture protection belt made of a lightweight and durable material, located under the tire′s tread.

EXO: A basic level of cut protection used on mountain bike tire sidewalls. The durable EXO protection belt is integrated beneath the rubber compound and protects the tire′s sidewalls from abrasion and minor rock impacts.

EXO+: A more robust protection level that combines the full-tire Silkshield puncture protection with EXO protection on the sidewalls. EXO+ is ideal for aggressive trail riding and lighter use on electric mountain bikes.

DoubleDown (DD): Puncture and cut protection suitable for demanding Enduro, bike park, and e-bike use. The DD protection level features a tire casing made of two overlapping 120TPI nylon fabrics, with durable butyl inserts integrated into the sidewalls for extra protection.

DH-Casing, or 60DW: DH-Casing-equipped mountain bike tires are highly durable and suitable for long-travel electric bikes and bike park use.

TPI (Threads Per Inch)

60TPI: Tires with fewer nylon fibers in the casing but more rubber. This provides natural protection against cuts and punctures, making the casing slightly stiffer.

120TPI: Tires with a dense nylon weave in the casing. These are often lighter and more responsive, making them ideal for racing.

TR (Tubeless Ready): Tubeless-ready tires that can also be used with traditional inner tubes without issue.

NOTE! The soft outer layers of 3C tires harden in cold weather. This negatively affects the tire′s grip and performance, and superficial cracks may form on the tread pattern. For cold weather and winter riding, we recommend Dual Compound tires made from harder materials.
